Artist's notes:

blood parrot cichlid thumbThe Tiger Oscar Cichlid was completed on 5.29.2010. Since moving to an earthquake prone area, I haven't wanted to risk having an aquarium. But I haven't lost my love of tropical hobby fish. This drawing of an oscar was very challenging, due in large part to the scales and unique patterns on the fish. The drawing is based on a photo by Tom Atwell.

Information about the Tiger Oscar Cichlid:

The Oscar is a species of cichlid. They are found in slow-moving streams and rivers of South America. They will grow to about 15 inches (34 cm) long and weigh about 2 pounds (1.6 kg.) These fish, while slow growing, are very popular for aquarium hobbyists and many various breeds have been developed due to selective breeding, such as fish with very long fins or varieties that are completely white.
