The Tiger Shark was completed on 2.23.2010. Sharks can be a tricky subject, as a simple side view doesn't make for a good image (too long and thin of course.) When I happened upon an excellent photo by Terry Goss I decided that this kind of 3/4 view was going to work. Tiger Sharks are impressive beasts, and after drawing them with their distinctive vertical stripes I certainly understand where the name came from.
The Tiger Shark is a species of requiem shark and is the only member of the genus Galeocerdo. They are large fish, growing to sizes in upwards of 13 feet long weighing over 2,000 pounds. They're found in tropical and temperate oceans, especially in the central Pacific islands. The Tiger Shark is a solitary predator, feeding on seals, fish, birds, sea turtles, dolphins and even other smaller sharks. The name comes from the dark stripes down the sides of the animal. They are second only to the Great White Shark in number of attacks on humans, although that number is extremely small considering the large number of human in the world's oceans at any given time. The Tiger Shark is often found close to shore in reefs and shallow sandy areas. Strange objects are often found in the shark's stomach such as license plates and car parts, and they are sometime called "the wastebasket of the sea."
