The Tokay Gecko was completed on 8.2.09. This was a fun drawing from beginning to end. These little lizards have got so much character and the Tokay's pattern so beautiful my only concern was not capturing the texture and being true to the reptile's patterns. I believe I got both right. The drawing is based on a photo by Andrew Hoffman.
The Tokay Gecko is a arboreal reptile native to the rainforests of northeast India, Bangladesh, and throughout Southeast Asia to Indonesia. It is an adaptive lizard and is often found living in manmade structures hunting insects near artificial lighting during the nighttime hours. It is the 2nd largest gecko growing to sizes of about 15 inches long. These animals are popular in the pet industry any many are imported from Asia to the rest of the world for the pet trade. These geckos are noted for their load vocalizations when mating. These geckos have been introduced into some of the Hawaiian islands and are considered a pest.
