The White-Bearded Wildebeest was completed on. I had considered drawing this animal for some time, and had decided on the White-Bearded, rather than the more common Blue Wildebeest, because I like the coloration and patterns. The addition of the young isn't something I like to include in drawing usually, but thanks to a reference photo from John Hallam which included the baby, I decided to make it part of the drawing.
The White-Bearded Wildebeest or Gnu is mainly at home in the Serengeti desert of Africa, specifically Kenya. This ungulate is considered endangered. For these large herbivores, large safari parks and zoo which can cater to their requirements might be the last place they can survive. Wildebeests are dependent on water, when they graze, they trample and manure the landscape they feed on, thereby stimulates new growth. Wildebeest are know for the longest mammal migration in the world, which can be between 500 and 1000 miles in search of food. Wildebeest are very noisy creatures. The males have a wide array of loud vocalizations, from low moans to loud snorts.
