The Yellow-Footed Tortoise was completed on 2.22.2011. Just as plodding and slow it seems, I'm making my way through the world's different tortoise population. So far, this drawing makes number #13. Not sure what the next species should be (but please feel free to send me an email if you'd like to make a suggestion. The drawing is based on a photo by John Adragna of a resident of the Parque Reptilandia
The Yellow-Footed Tortoise - also called the Brazilian Giant Tortoise, South American Tortoise and Forest Tortoise - is a species of turtle native to the dense rainforest and the tropical lowlands in South America. These tortoises like to build their nests hidden in the growth of a thick forest. This reptile is omnivorous, and will eat both plant matter like grasses mushrooms, fallen fruit as well as slow moving animals like snails and worms. Due to habitat destruction and removal of individuals for the pet trade the Yellow Footed Tortoise is considered vulnerable.
