The Yellow Warbler illustration was completed on 11.9.2011. This is part of a larger project for a series of park signs - should the project go through - for a repurposed airport in Boston. The signs will tell visitors to the park what type of animals they might encounter when hiking in the woods. The drawing is based on a photo by noted wildlife photographer David Cree. The Yellow Warbler is a small New World songbird. They vary in size depending on the subspecies, of which there are several. But in general, they are fairly small weighing about .35 ounces (10 grams) The females, as with many other bird species, tend to be have more dull or muted coloration than the males. These birds feed mostly on insects, which they find by gleaning the trees and bushes, and snapping up any prey that might try to escape. The species and most of the subspecies are locally abundant and are not considered endangered.
