Artist's notes:

zebra shark thumbThe Zebra Shark was completed on 10.14.2010. Now that I've gotten some of the more popular species of sharks drawn, I'm branching out into the less known and perhaps somewhat more bizarre species, like this Zebra Shark. Have a suggestion for a shark or ray I haven't drawn? Shoot me an email! The drawing is based on a photo by the talented Amanda Pippen.

Information about the Zebra Shark:

The Zebra Shark is bottom dwelling fish found in shallow coral reefs and sandy flats in the tropical areas of the Indo-Pacific. It is a species of carpet shark and the only member of the family Stegostomatidae. They are medium-sized sharks, reaching an adult length of about 8 feet or 2.5 meters. Zebra Sharks are nocturnal (active only at night) and during the day spend most of the time motionless on the sea bottom. When night comes and they hunt, they usually feed on mollusks, crustaceans and small bony fishes. It is taken by commercial fisheries and because of this the population is considered vulnerable.
