Near the shores of Lake Merritt the Oakland Bonsai Garden is a welcome reprieve from the busy streets of downtown. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and make themselves available for questions.  Or if you're in the mood for quiet contemplation they'll let you wander the garden as you'd like.
